Over the years, the ADF
volunteers have proven to be an invaluable part of the ADF community.
Through their generosity, ADF has been able to further the traditions
of this cultural institution. The staff and friends of the ADF hope that
you will consider becoming a part of the future of the ADF by becoming
a volunteer.
Archives Assistants:
Make the history of an art form accessible to everyone. Assist ADF's
Archivist to preserve photographs, prepare for the videotaping of performances
and distribution of videotapes, and mount the Archives exhibition, among
other tasks. Dates: Year-round during office hours 10 am-6 pm.
Cast Dinner Sponsors:
Host a post-performance dinner for visiting dance companies. Nourish
our artists, and throw a great party at the same time! Dates: June and
July.
Docents: Conduct
tours of ADF classes and workshops. Local residents, out-of-town tourists,
student groups, and other community groups participate in these tours,
which begin with a video about the ADF and then a visit to four classes.
Tours last one hour and 45 minutes. They are offered every weekday,
except Wednesdays. A training meeting is offered prior to the opening
of the Festival. Dates: June-July.
Interpreters:
ADF needs interpreters! With students and performers representing over
40 countries in residence during our summer season, ADF has jobs for
volunteers fluent in almost any language. Translate at tech rehearsals,
in press interviews, for the school office, and similar situations.
We especially need people who are fluent in Spanish, Russian, French
and Japanese. Dates: June and July.
Office/Clerical/Bulk
Mailing/Database Assistants: Do you have a few spare hours here
and there? Help ADF staff with a myriad of miscellaneous jobs that come
up year-round. Need is greatest in the spring. Dates: Year-round during
office hours 10 am-6 pm.
Phone-a-thon Assistants:
Volunteers are needed to staff the phones during our two annual subscription
phone-a-thons. Food, fun, and prizes! These are not cold calls; you
will be talking to previous subscribers and ticket buyers. Dates: Evenings
in March and April.
Promotions Assistants:
Assist the ADF staff in distributing promotional materials (posters,
brochures, etc.) to local merchants, malls, public bulletin boards,
and other sites. Must provide own transportation. Dates: late April
- early June.
Special Events Assistants:
ADF sponsors a number of special events in the summer including the
annual Scripps/ADF Award Ceremony. ADF needs volunteers for these events,
as well as individuals to help with decoration and set-up, addressing
and mailing invitations, and food service.
Store Assistants: Volunteers
are needed for evening hours during the festival for merchandise sales
at the ADF store at the theaters. Profits from this store are used for
ADF tuition scholarships. Store Assistants receive one free ticket to
each performance worked and a season T-shirt. Dates: June and July.
Transportation Providers:
ADF needs volunteers to pick-up/drop-off our many international visitors
at the airport and transport them to our campus. Dates: early June and
late July.
Ushers: Welcome
and assist ADF patrons in all performance spaces. With the opportunity
to see amazing dance for free, your help is needed to distribute playbills,
collect ticket stubs, and report to the ADF House Manager. Ushers must
attend a brief training and scheduling session prior to the start of
the festival. Dates: June and July.
