MFA PROGRAM
Beginning its fourth extraordinary year, the 60-credit MFA offers students an opportunity to immerse themselves for six weeks in the legendary international community of the ADF, followed by an intimate learning atmosphere at Hollins University in Roanoke, VA. Few graduate programs can provide students with a wide range of experiences, opportunities, and imaginative approaches to thinking about dance. Students have direct exposure to the art form in a multitude of ways, from studio to stage and from history jams to theory salons. The program offers a flexible, yet rigorous, course of study. Using the resources of both institutions, the program offers two tracks: Year Residency Track and Low Residency Track.

The Year Residency Track is for highly motivated students with a strong interest in expanding their knowledge and experience, especially in their creative work, in an uninterrupted way. During the spring term, students travel abroad for international extended study projects. In 2008, travel includes residencies at the Free University of Vienna and Brussels’s multidisciplinary arts center Nadine.

The Low Residency Track is designed for mid-career artists, teachers, and dance professionals. For low-residency acceptance, applicants must be mature working artists with at least ten years of experience. Accomplished, nationally recognized candidates may receive up to 12 credits for professional experience.

The students and faculty establish a unique community of committed artists/scholars that range in ages and experiences. Members of this remarkable group spend a good deal of time together and inspire one another.

Post Baccalaureate Certificate
(For students from within the US and abroad)
As students complete their undergraduate degrees and prepare for a professional career in dance or graduate study, the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate (PBC) offers a year of time, support, and networking. Students enroll in three terms: summer at the ADF, fall and spring at Hollins University. The program is ideal for students who want to immerse themselves in a focused work environment that has a direct professional relationship to choreography, performance, and portfolio development. Students in the PBC program are also eligible for international extended study programs.

Application Deadline:
April 30, 2008
Check the Hollins website for details.

BA/BFA
This degree program in dance will be the first of its kind in the country. Students are enrolled at both Hollins and the ADF to graduate with a combined Hollins University BA/BFA in dance. Building on the existing partnership between the two institutions, this is a unique choice for qualified students who are equally passionate about dance and their academic studies.
